Showcasing the underlying heritage of the Black Country

Geodiversity refers to the variety of rocks, minerals and natural processes that make the landscape rocks, fossils and soils which provide the framework for life on earth. Relative to its area the Black Country has the most diverse geology of anywhere in the world. This diversity has led directly to prosperity and wealth generation for the region. The challenge now is to protect and encourage the management of existing geodiversity resources. The emerging idea is that the Black Country landscape, its cultural heritage and natural areas make it ideally suited to the establishment of a Black Country Urban GeoPark.
