Many people dismiss the wildlife value found in domestic gardens; considering them managed greenspaces. However, much of Britain’s countryside is also heavily managed, as our many of the Wildlife Trust’s own nature reserves. While many gardens are isolated from what we would regard as natural habitats they are often surrounded by other gardens. The combination of all these gardens does add up to a substantial habitat and natural green corridor and we would like to study them further.

We want to expand our database on the distribution of bird species across Sandwell and need your help to identify the bird species in your area.

The Sandwell Birdwatch is a new project for the over 60’s that aims to encourage people to watch, enjoy and record the birds that come into their own gardens.

.

We have created a starter pack to help you encourage birds into your garden it includes a free bird feeder, seed and advice about feeding and the placement of feeders. There is also a bird identification poster, survey cards and postcards. We have highlighted some bird species that you are likely to see and ones we are interested in.

To get involved all you need to do is visit one of the below locations, register, take your pack away and start recording:
